Celebrating Recovery, Piece by Piece

Ricardo Verdeguez, an alcohol and drug counselor at Puentes, knows the power of strong community support for people in recovery. He helped kickstart online Spanish-language recovery meetings for Puentes clients after the COVID-19 pandemic halted group gatherings.

September is National Recovery Month, a time to raise awareness about substance use and celebrate those in recovery. This year’s theme is “Join the Voices for Recovery: Celebrating Connections.” From sports figures and celebrities to our co-workers, neighbors, friends and family members, we have all experienced peaks and valleys, both big and small. But with strength, support and hope from the people we love, we are resilient.

Throughout the month, we’ll share stories of individuals in recovery, including Central City Concern employees and clients – their triumphs, their challenges, and what has helped them along the way.

Ricardo Verdeguez, an alcohol and drug counselor at Puentes, writes:

“Life is like a whole pie.
The same way addictions broke my life piece by piece,
Recovery has helped me to build a new life piece by piece,
Mentally, Physically and Spiritually.
And I am still building the pie.“

La vida es como un pie
Del mismo modo que la adicción me la destruyo pedazos
La Recuperación me ayuda a construirla por partes
(Física, Mental y Espiritual)
Y sigo construyendo mi Pie.”

We know the COVID-19 pandemic has brought new challenges for individuals in recovery, including changes to routines, increased isolation and reduced access to group support meetings and other services. We want our community to know that CCC is still here, serving and supporting you as you continue your recovery journey. Together, we can build resilience – piece by piece.

It's easy to join the CCC Recovery Family and get a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs and goals. We offer inpatient and outpatient treatment, one-on-one counseling, support groups and 12-step programs, recovery mentors, medications that treat addiction (such as Suboxone), and more.
