Central City Concern is proud to announce the opening of Madrona Studios, located at 10 N Weidler Street. Madrona Studios features 176 affordable studio apartments conveniently located next to MAX and bus lines and are just minutes away from downtown and Lloyd Center. All apartments have wall-to-wall windows with city views, air conditioning, and new amenities.

The name of the project pays homage to the historic Madrona Records, a jazz record store formerly located on the Southwest corner of North Williams and Broadway. Madrona Records was an important part of the neighborhood in the 1940s and 1950s, when the area was a thriving African-American business and nightlife district, with many jazz clubs around North Williams near what is now the Rose Quarter. According to Robert Dietsche in the book Jumptown, Madrona Records was “more than just the only place in town to buy Black music . . . it was a social center and a meeting place.”
